Writing and Editing
In every position I've ever held, I've written and edited content. From magazine articles to website copy to video scripts, I've taken what could reasonably be described as a glut of information on a particular subject, organized it, synthesized it, and produced something that told a story or made a larger point in a digestible way. My efforts were always in service of measurable organizational goals, like:
Increasing awareness. Attracting leads. Educating users. Growing subscriptions. Encouraging product expansion.
I love all parts of content development. I geek out on getting to produce the thing of course, because I get to use both the creative and analytical parts of my brain, but also on tracking its performance. When we mine those (cue Gollum voice) precious, gleaming statistics, we content folks can glean critical insights into what resonates with readers or users. We can then improve our ability to speak to our target audience through—you guessed it—content.

My first Big-Time Adult Job was working as an editorial assistant for a nonfiction book publisher. Later I was promoted to project editor. I credit my grammar and punctuation obsessions, as well as my ardent appreciation for good graphic design, to this experience. (During spring and fall "cover seasons," the editors would gather together in our tight, brick-walled quarters and review prospective book covers, discussing the merits and drawbacks of each version.) Below is a selection of the books I edited:

-
Every Night the Trees Disappear: Werner Herzog and the Making of Heart of Glass
-
Hendrix on Hendrix: Interviews and Encounters with Jimi Hendrix (Musicians in Their Own Words)
-
Home Front Girl: A Diary of Love, Literature, and Growing Up in Wartime America
-
